OUR LADY OF LOURDES HOSPITAL

Corporate Profile

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital was established on July 15, 1948, in Santa Mesa, Manila, by Dr. Basilio J. Valdes and Dr. Carlos Casas. The 50-bed, three-story general hospital was built in response to the need for medical facilities during post-World War I. Dr. Valdes was the first Medical Director, while Dr. Casas became the inaugural Hospital Administrator. The pioneering effort also welcomed the involvement of our sisters from the congregation of the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS).

Later, in November 1957, Lourdes Hospital transitioned ownership to the SSpS sisters. Under Sr. Irmingarda Feld SSpS’s leadership, significant renovations occurred, including the creation of the Service and Administrative Building, expanding bed capacity to about 200, and establishing the Medical Arts Building for doctors’ clinics.

After over six decades, the SSpS sisters entrusted Lourdes Hospital’s management to Metro Pacific Health, the Philippines’ largest private hospital group led by Mr. Manuel V. Pangilinan. This partnership spurred hospital advancements, encompassing facility upgrades, technology investments, and expanded medical services. As of the end of 2022, Lourdes Hospital boasts a workforce of over 700 professionals. Its annual gross revenue has surpassed the 1-billion-peso milestone, catering to over 12,000 admissions and around 120,000 outpatient cases annually.

Today, Lourdes Hospital is a tertiary institution with approximately 400 accredited active and visiting physicians. It hosts five medical residency programs in fields like Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Radiology. Despite evolving hospital management, Lourdes Hospital, in its over 75 years of existence, remains steadfast in its mission as a Christ-centered community of healthcare professionals dedicated to holistic healing.
